The Coalition of African Lesbians (CAL), as part of the Hivos managed KP REACH Consortium is looking for:

Vacancy Name: KP REACH National Programme Officer (2 vacancies) Region: Southern Africa

Location: Malawi and Namibia

The Coalition of African Lesbians (CAL), as part of the KP REACH Consortium is implementing a 3-year regional programme in eight countries in Southern Africa. Funded by the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, CAL seeks to appoint two (2) knowledgeable, skilled and experienced National Programme Officers – each one to be based in each of the programme countries as follows: Malawi and Namibia.

The ideal candidates must be self-motivated, energetic and highly organised with a deep and holistic understanding of the multi-layered issues facing organisations working on HIV/AIDSand Key Populations.

This is a full time position – initial 12-month contract, with a potential to extend for one year. Applicants must either be nationals of the countries above or another Southern African country with a valid residence and work permit.

Job purpose

The role involves working with movements in these countries to strengthen existing and create new learning spaces and opportunities with a focus on what works when organising for access to health, health services and HIV related services. Research and documentation of what works and of the lived realities of people on the margins, particularly sex workers, lesbian women and women with same sex desire, transdiverse and men who have sex with men is a key part of this work.


 Must be an activist and both feminist and have commitment to advancing Africa as a place where social justice for all is a reality

  •   Ability to work in teams and in consultative ways with transparency, accountability and participation as cornerstones of their work and activism
  •   Minimum of five years of working experience and track record of programme management work.
  •   Knowledge and experience of organising within movements and engaging in advocacy
  •   Strong conceptual, critical thinking and writing skills

A Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following: (Journalism, Social Sciences, Public Health, Political Science, Public Policy, Gender, Human Rights or Law) from a reputable tertiary education institution.
