Dear CAL community and partners,
The current pandemic has made us realise more than ever, that wellbeing should be at the center for our organisation, our members and our partners. As part of our commitment to improve the wellbeing of our staff, our organisation will take leave next week from August 9 to 13.
For us at CAL, 2020-21 has been a huge awakening and reckoning with who we are, who we want to be and how we treat one another. This reckoning has been a long time coming and the various lockdowns, the restrictions on travel and consequently the aftermath of the pandemic on most of our lives has strong-armed us into looking deeply at ourselves sooner than we may have otherwise. Recognising the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and navigating remote work in our homes and maintaining family life has adverse effects on not only physical health but mental health and wellbeing.
While we acknowledge that taking this break is a luxury that so many of us in activist circles do not have, we invite you to Breathe In with us.
We will be back with renewed energy deepening our work on economic justice, autonomy, violence against women, and sexual and reproductive health and rights with a stronger than ever commitment to advance freedom, justice and bodily autonomy for all women on the African continent and beyond.
In feminist solidarity,
The CAL team
